Desnutrición y obesidad siguen en aumento: experta. Día Internacional de la Alimentación.

 

Este 16 de octubre es el Día Internacional de la Alimentación. Este día se busca crear conciencia sobre la alimentación balanceada para la prevención de enfermedades cardiometabólicas, así como una alimentación sustentable, balanceada y sostenible.

Sin embargo, en la actualidad la desnutrición y la obesidad en la población pediátrica (niños) y adulta continúa en aumento, señaló la Dra. Paulina López Romero, Profesora del Departamento de Nutrición de la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG).

Según cifras de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Agricultura y la Alimentación (FAO) hay 820 millones de personas que padecen hambre en el mundo; mientras que por otro lado, un importante grupo de la población sufre de problemas de sobrepeso y obesidad.

Según la Estadística Nacional de Salud y Nutrición, en Salud 2016, más del 32% de la población de niños tiene un grado de obesidad. En México, un 19.8 de la población de niños de 5 a 11 años tiene sobrepeso, mientras que el 14.6 de la población general de la misma edad tiene un grado de obesidad.

Además, el 37% de la población adulta en nuestro país, de 20 años a más, tiene sobre peso, mientras que el 38.6%, tiene algún grado de obesidad.

En el tema de la seguridad alimentaria, la población en mayor riesgo son los niños, uno de cada ocho niños, menores de 5 años, presentan una talla baja, moderada o severa para su edad, situación relacionada con una desnutrición crónica. Entre los adultos, uno de cada seis presenta también desnutrición a partir de los 20 años.

“La desnutrición, en los niños, afecta en su desarrollo en diferentes actividades, un crecimiento tardío para sus habilidades cognitivas, individuales y sociales. La desnutrición y la obesidad se consideran como mal nutrición; por un lado, tenemos que faltan nutrientes y alimentos necesarios, mientras que en la obesidad hay muchos alimentos con amplio contenido energético”, dijo.

Para alcanzar una dieta saludable para toda la población se debe entender que hay maneras de conseguir y consumir alimentos sanos y accesibles, comentó la doctora y agregó que “saludable no significa que sea cara, sino sostenible. Se ha dejado la alimentación en casa y se adoptaron hábitos de alimentarse con comida rápida con altos contenidos de grasas transgénicas y sodio”.

Por lo anterior, la doctora López Romero señaló que la población debe hacerse responsables de su alimentación y combatir el sedentarismo, aunque explicó que las personas no tienen la apertura adecuada para hablar sobre estos temas.

“No se trata de una responsabilidad del gobierno, es una responsabilidad individual. Hay muchos programas que nos apoyan para combatir la obesidad. Yo recomiendo intentar mejorar o cambiar los hábitos con una alimentación balanceada y sostenible: comprar alimentos de productores locales y en mercados no en supermercados”, agregó.

Por último, la doctora recomendó disminuir el consumo de alimentos procesados, grasas transgénicas, postres, comida rápida y azucares extras, así como realizar actividades físicas de al menos 30 minutos cinco días a la semana.
